San Miguel de Salinas is a picturesque municipality located in the southern part of Alicante province, within the Vega Baja del Segura comarca. Covering an area of about 54.9 km² and with a population of approximately 6,800 inhabitants, it stands out as the highest town in the comarca, situated around 75 meters above sea level.

From the top of the town, you can enjoy panoramic views over the citrus fields, the Torrevieja and La Mata lagoons, and on clear days, even the Mediterranean Sea — which has earned it the nickname “Balcony of the Costa Blanca.”

The town center retains its traditional charm with whitewashed houses, narrow streets, and welcoming squares. Among its monuments, the 18th-century Church of San Miguel Arcángel stands out, located in the main square and one of the few buildings that survived the 1829 earthquake. It borders the Natural Park of the Salinas de Torrevieja and La Mata, perfect for birdwatching and outdoor activities such as hiking and picnicking. Additionally, Sierra Escalona and Peña del Águila offer mountain trails and stunning panoramic views.

Local life combines tradition with vitality. Key celebrations include the patron saint festivals in September (San Miguel Arcángel) and October (Virgen del Rosario), along with the popular August fair and the Santa Cecilia festivities in November, featuring concerts and musical events.
